Spink Comhaltas at the Laois Fleadh Ceoil 2017

There are 7 branches in Laois and the Laois Fleadh Cheoil rotates across each of them over a 7 year cycle.  The standard of music at the Laois Fleadh cheoil is arguably amongst the highest across the entire country, and if a competitor is fortunate to qualify out of Laois, then they will be a strong candidate at Leinster and hopefully All Ireland.

The Laois Fleadh traditionally takes place over the June bank holiday weekend.

In 2017, it was the turn of Camross branch to host the Fleadh which they did in style and with excellent organisation.  Spink branch travelled in great numbers to the foot of the Sliabh Bloom mountains, and all of the competitors would really like to thank the great supporters for all the encouragement.

Spink branch has experienced a significant renaissance over the last 5 years, and we are delighted that we have developed our branch and musicians to a point where we had 7 groups taking part across all age groups from U12 through U15 and U18 right up to adult.  We were delighted to be placed in the top 3 in every single group competition, and 6 of our 7 groups qualified for Leinster – some achievement!

At an individual level, we had large numbers taking part, with equally good results, and Spink branch is looking forward to making an equally strong impression at the Leinster Fleadh when it takes place in Ballymahon in Co Longford during July 2017.
