Irish Music

Ireland is fortunate to have our music, song, dance, language and story telling as something truly unique and recognisable – no matter where in the world you are, if you play Irish music you will receive a warm reception.

We are part of the national movement that is Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, and are a voluntary group who promote our Irish culture and encourage excellence.

We have excellent music teachers. Our philosophy is to encourage musicians to enjoy and develop a life-long love for playing music first, and to think about competitions and exams as a secondary objective.

Our classes are delivered in small groups, to encourage the social side of playing music, as well as minimising cost. Where students are interested in pursuing additional one to one tuition, we can refer them to a specialist teacher for their particular instrument.

Our motto is ‘Cleachtadh a dhéanann maistreacht’ – meaning ‘Practice makes perfect’. In this sense, mastery comes from doing. The maestro masters his instrument by performance, not just through the repetition of practice exercises. The Gaeilgeoir becomes fluent not from just doing her lessons regularly but by using the language. In this spirit, we at Spink Comhaltas invite you to do Irish music. Join us at our classes or at our seisiúns. Use the music you are practicing and you will gain mastery.

If you are interested in learning traditional Irish music, consider joining Spink Comhaltas.
